Capturing the changing garden

Our garden seems to be in a constant state of change right now.  After weeks and weeks of never ending rain we are finally seeing some sunshine.  I think this change has really caused the garden to wake up. We have a pot of Picasso petunias on the deck, we first came across this petunia several years ago and it’s been a staple very year since.  The blooms have a nice deep burgundy center that fades to a bright magenta as it reaches the edge of the flower.  The edge of the bloom has a bright green band, it’s easy … Continue reading Capturing the changing garden

Loose watercolors and focus

I’ve been bouncing around a lot with my art, and my social media usage, I seem to have issues committing to things right now.  But I think it’s time to start narrowing my focus.  I realize we humans need some variety, but I also feel we benefit from less distractions and more focus.  Two things I am really looking forward to actually. On the art front I think a good place for my focus will be the watercolors, the loose watercolors.  And pencil, I love working with pencils.  I’ll utilize both loose sheets and my go to Stillman & Birn … Continue reading Loose watercolors and focus

Honesty and sketchbooks

There are times in our lives when events force us to look at where we are and what led us there.  I am in one of those events, and my art and the direction I want to take my art is an area I have really been looking at. The watercolors are flowing

I hope everyone is having a nice day today.  We are getting more rain here in NW Ohio, that means happy plants but that also means the exterior house painting must continue to wait. I’m not sure if I have shared this next watercolor out here or not, this was painted last year. As I was going through my boxes of finished art today this piece really jumped out at me.  This was one of my early attempts with loose/abstract watercolors, and to be honest I’m not sure why I haven’t framed this and hung it on the wall.  I … Continue reading The watercolors are flowing

Violets and houses

We have several houseplants scattered around our home, they are frequent subjects for my creative outlets, and our African violet is now starting to bloom.  The blooms vary from pink to almost all white, right now it’s blooming all white with a smidge of pink on the edges.  I originally painted this with the white blooms but it just looked like I forgot to paint the flowers, so I used my creative license and added some color. In the past, I would try to go back into the painting and add some pencil or pen lines, but I have started … Continue reading Violets and houses
